“Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has raided Dewey Ballantine and DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary for two new partners…
…DLA Piper Partner, David Hughes, is joining BLP to head the firm’s banking litigation team.
A specialist in representing financial institutions, Hughes has also advised on disputes involving capital market structures and has investigated financial irregularities and money laundering issues. He acted in the leading House of Lords case concerned with the assessment of damages in negligent valuation cases.
Hughes told The Lawyer: ‘BLP has an excellent reputation with financial institutions and a superb litigation team, and I’ve been brought in to add to the expertise in assisting banks to resolve disputes and also for regulatory issues. I feel the firm will support me in what I want to do.’”
Berwin Leighton Paisner has enjoyed huge growth in the finance and banking departments, having won places on the panels of major banks. A banking litigation practice was now a core area to be developed to offer further service to their clients. Thus, we were asked to find a ‘Head of Banking Litigation’ who could come in and market the litigation department to finance clients and who would also build up a banking litigation group.
Having mapped the market and produced an in-depth research document, which included feedback on recommended targets from known industry experts, a very focused shortlist was agreed upon.
The initial favoured candidate was excited by the opportunity that this role offered in terms of marketing and building. Berwin Leighton Paisner are delighted with their addition and the Banking Litigation group is developing rapidly.
