The Social Mobility Foundation

In the current climate as businesses tighten their belts, one sector which is clearly being hit hard is the charity sector. This year, and for the foreseeable future, Glass Consultancy has chosen to partner with a specific charity, The Social Mobility Foundation.

The Foundation was set up in London in 2005 and is aimed exclusively at academically high-achieving 'A' Level students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. The foundation sponsors students to undertake an internship in the Summer of Year 12 with a high level employer in one of the top professions, commerce, banking, financial services, administration or industry. It also offers its students assistance in completing their UCAS forms and personal statements and training for Oxbridge interviews. These are difficult and challenging tasks at the best of times but particularly so for an under-privileged student; it is an area in which applicants from privileged backgrounds often have a major advantage, as they can call upon family and friends with broad experience of university and professional environments. It is an area where investment of skills and time make a real difference and if we truly want to make the legal profession more diverse then this has to be one of the best places to start.

Further to discussions with The Social Mobility Foundation, Glass Consultancy is seeking to build a long term relationship with the organisation and possibly encourage some of our law firm clients to work together to support them in one of a number of ways, including:
